What haI recently ran an update and upgrade on my Kali Linux system using:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
After rebooting, I’m stuck on a screen that says:
“Oh no! Something has gone wrong.”
I tried using Ctrl + Alt + F2 to F6 to switch to a TTY terminal, but nothing works — it stays on the same error screen and doesn’t let me log in to a terminal. I’m effectively locked out of the system and can’t troubleshoot via CLI.
Lmao reinstall…???
That’s your fix for everything huh…lol?
Bruh, I have got tons of tools configs, and setups I aint nuking my system just 'cause something glitched…I actually fixed it the smart way… no thanks to your reinstall-everything approach…TBH, feels like this place is turning into a factory of clueless replies…fr…Kali used to be a goldmine of real help, now it’s sounding more like a GPT echo chamber run by interns
Apparently, you weren’t part of that ‘goldmine of help’ or you would have told us what you did to fix the issue rather than simply insulting others and then sanctimoniously running off.
I get where you’re coming from, and fair point. Just to clarify I actually did share how I fixed it earlier
I connected to Wi-Fi in recovery mode, then ran system upgrades, and that resolved the issue without needing to reinstall
My frustration was with how often ‘just reinstall’ is suggested without trying to troubleshoot. No offense meant to anyone personally I just think we can aim for better solutions together.
some other guy found the solution on discord.
He logged out switched to xfce desktop enviornment and uninstalled gnome and reinstalled it. he said that it fixed his issue.
I would really suggest not to blindy doing something that might be 100% unrelated. The guy switching desktop environments around made no attempt to first figure out what the problem is, so it may be not smart to follow their example blindly.
That none of the people that experiences a gnome error screen in the past day somehow managed to
find their log files
look at their log files
to figure out what the problem actually is.. and that despite this lack of information people suggest random stuff left and right is honestly depressing.
