Alfa AWUS036NHA Master Mode

i just bought this card as i was told i can go into master mode. Wen i run hostapd i get
wlan0: interface state UNINITIALIZED->ENABLED
wlan0: AP-ENABLED

cool.

but when i run berate_ap i get

berate_ap wlan0 eth0 free

Config dir: /tmp/create_ap.wlan0.conf.Xkze88B5

Network Manager found, set ap0 as unmanaged device… DONE
Creating a virtual WiFi interface… ap0 created.

ERROR: Your adapter can not transmit to channel 1, frequency band 2.4GHz.

You mean monitor mode, and you still need to actually switch it to that;
