Best Laptop for pen testing and auditing

Hello everyone,

I have been reading around on different forums, Youtube videos, etc, etc, about the best laptop to get for Kali Linux. I understand it all depends on my usage of Kali, and this will be used for pen testing and auditing. I purchased a Lenovo Yoga Aura Edition with an Intel Ultra I7 and the Kali installer will not find the NVME driver for the local disk. All the things such as secure boot, etc have been disabled. I have also tried the live boot, net installer, everything, and it does not find it. If I am missing something and this laptop should work fine, please let me know.

With that, what does the community say for a good laptop for Kali? I want to spend between 1400-2100.

Thank you for the help my friends.

If your dual booting with windows, you need to change BIOS settings from RAID to AHCI for the disk;

Switch Windows 10 from RAID/IDE to AHCI - Knowledgebase / Microsoft Windows - CTSi Group - Helpdesk.

Even for only booting Kali you need to change setting to AHCI for it to see disk, you just don’t need to ‘fix’ windows so its boots as in the link.

I am not dual booting. The Yoga Aura Edition I purchased (and will be returning) is very restrictive in the BIOS options category. It is almost like they built it for Windows only. I have zero options to modify drive type, RAM settings, etc.

I have seem alot of talk about the Yoga X Carbon. Thoughts on that one?

Specifically the I5ILL9 Yoga model number.

I love my Lenovo Thinkpad Carbon X1. Everything is recognized by Debian and lots of RAM for a Kali VM. Small and thin, so handy for travel. Battery could be better but I’ll never be using it anywhere without a power cord.
