This is my first time trying to install this. i got a brand new laptop and want to learn a thing or two with linux. well i got the vms but not sure where to go from here i tried running the install vm but its saying something might be typed but i havent really even gotten that far. thank you guys

What VM software are you using?
You could use virtual box, VMWare workstation, or Microsoft’s HyperV (I’m assuming your new laptop came with windows on it)
You would need to enable virtualisation extensions in the BIOS/UEFI of your laptop.
Then you import the VM image into your chosen VM software and start using your virtual image of Kali…
Or you could use WSL (windows subsystem for Linux) and download a prebuilt Kali that way;
if you watched youtube as your guide the new gui of both vm and kali makes youtube useless. the important thing is that you check if virtualization is on if you are using x64 bit version.
Now to run the VM you need to go to the download file. extract it .Then click on the kali file until you reach a blue cube and then click on it.it should open kali linux in vm. the name and password is kali(usually).
if it doesnt work then do something simillar. or you could ai as your guide
