Kali working fine but then black screen Help!

What have you tried: double checking all physical connections and updating

What is the error: screen blanking

What device is this on: Samsung Chromebook 3

here’s a description:

Hi, I am very new to kali (and linux itself) but for the past couple days I have gotten kali installed and working on a chromebook I had lying around. There has definitely been a bit of a learning curve but the system itself has been running great.

Starting this morning, everything will be working just fine but seemingly randomly the screen will turn off. They system doesn’t turn off, just the screen. If I press any key the screen momentary lights up to a lit black screen with just my cursor. I can move the cursor for a second before it goes black again. I can sometime get back to the lock screen (idk how, js pressing random buttons till something happened). The only way that I have found is to fully shutdown and reboot the computer (deleting anything I had open).

I though it was going to be something to do with a loose connection of something along those lines, but after some thorough investigation of the internals (visual, replugging everything) nothing worked. I have also updated kali. PLEASE HELP!

Power off Your computer
On it again, and go to 2nd option
Select the different version ( not the recovery mode one, There are 2 software options )

I always do this when my display server doesnot works on boot, if your tty2 works .. it will works on your system too

Turn off power management.

I started working in tech support about 25 years ago, and turning off power management back then solved all manner of strange and sometimes unrelateable issues. 25 odd years later, it still fixes many issues like this.

Go into System Settings, search for Power, and switch off power management.

maybe you used the wrong command to upgrade your system. the command is sudo apt full-upgrade and not upgrade. when people use upgrade instead of full-upgrade such black screens are known to occur.
