Log in issue after vmware install

What have you tried: User kali PW kali

What is the error:won’t let me log in

What device is this on:Vmware windows

any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just had this same problem. When it asked for my ‘real name’ that turned out to be the username for the beginning prompt. Your password is the one that you set up in the install. I tried the ‘root’ and ‘toor’ ; also tried ‘kali’ and ‘kali’ ; also tried ‘root’ and ‘password’ Oh yeah spent a little time trying to figure that out

if this was a real install from an iso, then you created a user/pass during the install. If this is the prebuilt vm that you import into vmware then the user/pass is kali kali.

Hi Barry, thanks so much for you quick reply. No it wasn’t an iso it was a VMware image. no set up. Maybe there’s a problem with it and needs to be re done. i’ll do that and let you know the outcome. Hopefully that’ll sort it out.

Yeah, I installed the ISO instead of using the VMware image. It takes a bit longer, but you get to choose your own PW. Thanks for your help. It would be good to know what the VMware set-up PW was, though, but there is no info anywhere.

on the download page for the vm images it clearly states default credentials as kali / kali

It’s also in the vm’s description in the host software.

@barry99705 @Fred There must have been something wrong with the VMWare image as i tried various combinations of Kali and other stuff i found online to no avail.Ended up installing from an iso which worked a treat. Typical for me to go down easy street which makes life harder in the end. Thanks guys
