N00b with hardware questions (MiniPC, RPi, VM)

Hi everyone.

I’m new to Kali, but with some experience in other Linux distros.

I have an old PI 1B which was the first piece of hardware I tried to install Kali on and had no luck with headers, compiling the driver for the wireless USB adapter, so gave up and tried the VM on Virtual Box (win11 host) and had it running using the USB Wifi.

Now I’m planning on moving to the next step which will be its final destination, using its own hardware and was wondering if you had any experience on MiniPCs like Beelinks or the sort compared to Raspbery Pi 5 which is almost the same price, but it is just a Pi .

TIA

If you’re looking for better performance and a seamless experience with Kali Linux, a MiniPC like Beelink is your best bet. It offers:

  • x86_64 architecture for full compatibility with Kali tools.
  • More RAM (8GB or more) and storage (SSD) for smoother performance, especially with resource-intensive tasks.
  • No need for manual tweaks or compiling drivers.

On the other hand, the Raspberry Pi 5 is a great low-cost, low-power option. It offers:

  • ARM architecture, which might cause some compatibility issues with certain Kali tools.
  • Less power and community-driven support but slower performance compared to a MiniPC.

If you want a powerful, hassle-free setup, go for the MiniPC. If you prioritize compactness and energy efficiency, the Raspberry Pi 5 works well but requires more setup.
