Need help installing Kali

Hello, I am new to the world of Linux, and I am trying to learn. I have created a Virtual Machine for Kali in oracle but when I tried to start it, it says that the kernel requires a x86-64 CPU, and it detects an i686 CPU. I have a Dell Inspiron 15 with 16 GB of ram. What else do I need to do to make this program work? Thank you.

that is an old chipset, it is compatible with an x86 chipset, but as its only a 32 bit CPU it can’t run the latest 64 bit Kali

x86_64 just means a 64 bit chip that can run 32 bit programs (backwards compatible)

The last image I’m aware of for that platform is here;

Many of the tools will still work, though you won’t have any updates available so it would be ‘as is’

I’m not sure how many tools are included, though many have been around for a while, and that image was up to date in 2021 so won’t be too far behind.

Don’t try and update it, it will either simply fail, or could break the install :wink:
