Doing an upgrade for kali purple 2025 1
There were 2 prompts
First is to accept license for intel wireless software
If you decline a virus is released that eats your system
It says in its TOS that if you decline it will destroy itself
Well it destroys more than that, your system is toast
And dont have anything plugged in to test it ie usb or such
Also could not reboot, it ate items on screen, it would not boot a read only file system afterwards over usb to fix the system, had to resort to dvd
What are you on about?
ok I tested two more times for more info
I did not get the same results
Not sure what happened
There is no malware that I can tell
Let the full upgrade complete or can damage your system
During the upgrade all the fonts will turn to squares
But it will correct itself
Still testing
You seem to be brand new to linux, so in order as not to confuse people with the thread title I took the liberty to change it.
Thanks for that, I was looking for an edit button
Welcome aboard.
My thoughts, who would design a malware triggered by the refusal of the license for the very system you want to update.
I might be wrong but seems very unlikely
Next time, if you see something strange, unusual, take a photo, take screenshots.
Operating systems are the cooperation of thousands of people. Hackers like that kind of atmosphere and mess. Someone can hack into someone’s github, or his/her home computer, and change the source code of some important application. It does not have to be a full-fledged hack, a slight change, introducing vulnerability. An unknowing programmer will send it to the repository, and it will stay there for years unnoticed.
No normal virus/trojan writes that it is a virus/trojan. On the contrary, it will pretend to be legitimate software, use commonly known application names, and pretend that it is not there.
That’s why checksums/hashes (MD5SUMS, SHA1SUMS, SHA256SUMS), and digital signatures are used. But if someone doesn’t know how to use it, it won’t help him/her. On the contrary, he/she will have the undeserved feeling that everything is fine, while it is not.
Checksums or digital signatures won’t help if the machine of a legitimate OS developer or distro application has been hacked.
