YouTube Video Downloads Work on Kali VM but Not on Windows – Any Suggestions?

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently installed Kali Linux through VMware, and I noticed something odd that I’m hoping someone can help with.

When I use Chrome inside the Kali VM, I’m able to visit y2mate to download YouTube videos without any issues. However, when I switch to Windows (the host OS) and try to visit the same site, it either doesn’t work or behaves differently (e.g., download buttons not appearing or the site not loading correctly).

I’m wondering:

  1. Could this be related to browser settings, extensions, or some network configuration difference between Kali and Windows?
  2. Is there something about the Kali environment or Chrome inside the VM that allows it to work better with this kind of site?
  3. Has anyone else experienced similar behavior across different OSes or VMs?
