with the right repositories, dist-upgrade and a reboot should be enough
what does "virtual machine" means to you? try dual boot and it will work
i tried as well on a similar netbook but it works on low RAM so i don't think it will work. for that kind of (old) netbooks i recommend Debian LXDE. it's easy, fast and you can install every kali...
that's the official bully. as told, follow the steps above and install the other version
go to github, search bully and get AanarchyY's version. once installed, use -d and you should be fine

great! i don't even have this issue on my sana(yet) but thank you. good job :)
try without changing MAC. since recent updates if i change MAC, authentication is a mess. and use airodump with -c so you can see RXQ as well. with PWR 65, but RQX below 50-60 i've always had...

if you are looking for RTL8812AU, you will find that it's hardmac-based. so.. i don't think will ever work on monitor mode
wash shows ONLY wps enabled AP's. seems like your BT has WPS disabled
check that AP with -c option to see the rxq you have. low rxq=lot of warnings. also see the --wps command. if it's PBC, forget it. Happy.. attempts ;)
i also found an old laptop, but for sure i didn't go with kali on it. from various researches,i stopped between mint and Lubuntu. opted for Lubuntu which works faster than my modern desktop with...

it may be the distance, obstacles, many factors. what airodump shows on the pwr and rqx of that ap?
i use the NHA or a ralink chip panel antenna. sometimes they both give me those errors so i just unplug for like 5 seconds and reinsert it. tell you the truth, after mon0 was gone, always used...
try "sudo gedit /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf" and at the end add this: "[keyfile] unmanaged-devices=interface-name:wlan0mon" should eliminate any network manager conflicts. try update &&...

put this into your repositories list: deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali-dev-only main non-free contrib . update and delete it

the HT wps should see it as wlan0 and turn it mon0 or wlan0mon by itself. try not to start it with airmon-ng,or "airmon-ng check kill" first. the rolling edition it's a mess anyhow. go with sana and...
